🏠📉 NEC Director Kevin Hassett Grilled on Whether Fed Rate Cuts Would Rescue the Housing Market
With millions of families priced out of the housing market, our reporter @CaraCastronuova asked:
If the Fed cuts 150 basis points like the president wants, would that meaningfully jumpstart housing? And will it actually bring down mortgage rates?
Hassett responded that @POTUS is “focused like a laser beam” on housing affordability – pointing to efforts to:
• End institutional investors buying up single-family homes
• Reform Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac policies
• Reduce the federal deficit to ease inflation and interest rate pressure
He also claimed mortgage costs have already dropped by about $4,000 per family this year and argued that deficit reduction (nearly $600 billion last year) helps put downward pressure on interest rates.
The big question remains: Would a 150-basis-point Fed cut truly make homes more affordable for everyday Americans?
