🚨 After Schumer’s ‘Jim Crow’ label, Ted Lieu says SAVE Act would block many Americans from voting
Our reporter asked @RepTedLieu about @SenSchumer labeling the SAVE Act “Jim Crow,” and whether that characterization implies Black voters lack valid identification. Lieu did not address the implication and instead focused on opposing the bill.
“I agree… that this act has significant problems,” Lieu said, arguing the requirements would mean “a lot of Americans wouldn’t be able to vote.”
Lieu claimed proving U.S. citizenship could be “hard” without documents like a passport or birth certificate – a concern previously raised by @ChuckGrassley.
When informed that Grassley now supports the SAVE Act, Lieu responded: “Well, then I disagree with Grassley.”
