30,000 pounds of beef recalled: Is this because of Trump’s newly imported beef?

A recent beef recall is being presented online as if President Trump’s decision to temporarily increase beef imports immediately backfired. Is this actually the case, or just another fake news lie? The truth is actually pretty clear in this scenario.
Nearly 30,000 pounds of Argentine beef were recalled earlier this month after the products entered U.S. commerce without undergoing the required federal import reinspection. The USDA announced the recall on August 7, while the affected beef was produced between May 15 and May 20. The products were distributed in Texas and Florida.
The problem with connecting that recall to Trump’s recently announced beef import plan is that the two events are not the same thing.
Trump announced his plan on August 21, more than two weeks after the USDA recall was issued. His plan calls for temporarily allowing up to 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef into the United States over a 90-day period in an effort to increase supply and reduce prices.
The claims then suggesting the recalled beef was part of Trump’s new import push were fundamentally misleading. The recalled products were already in the country months before Trump announced the August plan.
There is another important detail being left out of many of the posts surrounding the recall.
The USDA did not announce that the beef was contaminated, nor did officials report confirmed illnesses connected to the products. The recall resulted from a failure to complete the required import reinspection. The USDA discovered the problem during routine inspection activities.
