President Xi, Madame Peng depart Washington – President Trump calls summit ‘productive’
Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan, departed Washington, D.C., on Friday, on the heels of a three-day summit that President Trump called “very successful” amid many topics of discussion.

Chinese President Xi’s high-profile visit to the United States was filled with rich displays of American tradition, a candlelit State Dinner, and musical performances – but behind closed doors, President Donald Trump said that the diplomacy was “very productive” for the U.S.
“Very productive meeting with President Xi for both the U.S.A. and China,” President Trump said Friday morning. “Tremendous things will be happening.”
Xi and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan, departed D.C. on Friday. They had arrived on Wednesday.
“President Xi and Madam Peng have just left D.C., heading for China,” President Trump in a second statement on Friday.
He continued, “The meeting was one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A. We will be meeting again in November, in China, and then at the G20 in December, in Miami, Florida. Much has been, and will be, accomplished. I look forward to our next meeting!”
Before their departure, President Xi told President Trump, with the press looking on, that the two world leaders would have more opportunities to speak in person this year.
“Looking ahead to the remainder of this year, there will be two more opportunities for us to meet each other,” Xi said, via a translator. “Firstly, the APEC meeting in China and then, the G20 Summit in the United States.”
Xi also invited President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to visit China again.
President Trump visited China earlier this year, during a multi-day summit in Beijing. Xi’s visit to the White House this week was a fulfillment of America’s promise to host the Chinese leader in return.
“Well, thank you very much,” President Trump said of the invitation. “We will. And we’ll be speaking a lot. I think our farmers are going to be very happy. A lot of very positive things happened, but America is very happy about this visit and I’m sure China is very happy also. Great things for both countries.”
