Protests spread around the country following Los Angeles violence
As protests continue in Los Angeles, demonstrators from other major cities across the country have begun to join in. On Tuesday night, protests were reported in more than half a dozen cities, including Dallas, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta.
In Dallas, demonstrations began Monday night at the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, where hundreds gathered in solidarity with those protesting in Los Angeles. Tensions rose when Dallas police arrested a man around 7 p.m. on one count of assault on a peace officer, a second-degree felony, and one count of attempting to take a stun gun from an officer, according to an affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News.
By Tuesday night, demonstrators arriving at the bridge found it closed by Dallas PD in an effort to prevent further escalation.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has stated on X that the Texas National Guard is being deployed to ensure that demonstrations remain peaceful.
Near Atlanta, hundreds of protesters gathered Tuesday night along Buford Highway for an anti-ICE demonstration. Authorities report that six individuals were arrested, with some allegedly throwing rocks and damaging police vehicles.
Other major cities, including Philadelphia and New York, also reported arrests. 15 protesters were detained in Philadelphia, and 86 in New York City.
