The U.S. Naval Academy is on lockdown following reports of an active shooter at Bancroft Hall, the academy’s main dormitory. Authorities say multiple victims are being assessed, with at least one in life-threatening condition airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Law enforcement officials are responding to the incident alongside academy security. The identity of the shooter has not been confirmed, and it is unclear what led to the attack. Students and staff were ordered to shelter in place while officers secured the area.
Bancroft Hall, which houses more than 1,600 midshipmen, remains under strict lockdown. Officers have been seen patrolling the area and evacuating residents as safely as possible. Helicopters were used to transport the critically injured victim to receive emergency medical care.
Officials caution that the situation is still developing and urge anyone in the vicinity to avoid the campus. Local authorities, the Naval Academy, and state police are coordinating closely to ensure safety and provide accurate updates as information becomes available
