FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday that his agency had thwarted a potential terrorist attack, resulting in the arrest of multiple individuals in the state of Michigan.
“This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” Director Patel announced on X.
He continued, “More details to come. Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland.”
According to NBC, the FBI reportedly took a group of individuals into custody in Detroit “who were plotting some form of attack with a possible reference to Halloween.” The outlet cited law enforcement officials who suggested that these individuals who were arrested “has a nexus to some form of foreign extremism.”
Early this morning, the Dearborn Police Department also released a statement on Facebook:
“The Dearborn Police Department has been made aware that the FBI conducted operations in the City of Dearborn earlier this morning. We want to assure our residents that there is no threat to the community at this time.”
The details of this plot have not yet been released.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated on X, “Protecting the Homeland is our top priority. We will not rest.”
Update: Following the FBI director’s initial announcement, MSNBC reporter Ken Dilanian claimed that there “seems to be consternation within the FBI that the director announced these arrests prematurely.”
