Don’t forget the plague of mass illegal immigration under the Biden administration
By Easton Martin
Recent changes in immigration enforcement have led to the lowest number of illegal border crossings since 1970. What has led to this dramatic change in what goes on at the southern border? Whether people want to admit it or not, the reason is pretty obvious.
President Donald Trump ordered strict border security policies immediately after his inauguration. His administration ended previous entry programs and started quick deportation operations. Federal agents focused on arrests inside the country and sent more law enforcement to the southern border to stop new arrivals.
These actions changed the border situation completely. By late 2025, agents recorded fewer than 10,000 people crossing the southwest border each month. The Department of Homeland Security also went several months in a row without releasing anyone illegally into the country. The 2025 fiscal year ended with a 79 percent drop in southwest border encounters compared to the year before.
This continuous enforcement fixed a system that recently saw millions of illegal crossings. Law enforcement officials say the new arrest and removal operations caused this 50-year low in border traffic. The border situation now represents a complete reversal of the migration surges seen earlier in the decade.
Lest we forget how bad the border situation was under the Biden administration, federal agents recorded more than 10 million migrant encounters during his term. Large caravans frequently traveled toward the southern border. In December 2023 alone, officials recorded over 300,000 encounters at the southwest boundary. That month set an all-time record for border traffic. This massive increase in net immigration strained city resources across the country before the recent enforcement changes took effect.
