Ilhan Omar condemns “early judgements” on ICE shooting in Minneapolis, but who exactly is doing that?
Representative Ilhan Omar took to the airwaves this Sunday with a stern warning regarding the ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Speaking on Face the Nation, she chastised the federal government for making “early judgments” and labeling the deceased a “domestic terrorist” before the investigation concluded. “Let the investigation take place,” she urged, positioning herself as the voice of procedural caution.
If “early judgments” are the enemy of justice, one must ask where this caution was for Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey. While Omar demanded patience from Washington, Minnesota’s local leadership offered none.
Mere hours after the incident, Governor Walz dismissed the federal account as a “propaganda machine,” explicitly telling constituents, “Don’t believe this.” Mayor Frey went further, watching a video snippet and immediately declaring the agent’s claim of self-defense “bullshit” before telling federal officers to leave his city.
Neither Walz nor Frey waited for ballistics, comprehensive witness interviews, or the “full investigation” Omar now demands. They reached their verdict instantly. Omar is right that labeling a citizen a “terrorist” without due process is dangerous. However, it is equally dangerous to label law enforcement actions as “reckless murder” before the facts are in. If Minnesota’s leaders want a monopoly on early judgments while silencing their political opponents, they are not asking for justice.
