Ilhan Omar to LindellTV reporter: “Are you just stupid”?

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is facing renewed scrutiny after a tense exchange with LindellTV reporter Alison Steinberg went viral.
When confronted in the Capitol hallways about the massive “Minnesota fraud scandal” that has rocked her home state, Omar appeared to dodge the inquiries, dismissing the reporter by saying, “You just ask stupid questions, is that your thing?” before exiting the interaction.
The questions Omar sidestepped strike at the heart of a deepening controversy. The scandal revolves around the alleged theft of hundreds of millions, and potentially up to $9 billion according to some federal estimates, from taxpayer-funded programs like “Feeding Our Future.”
Federal investigations have already led to dozens of convictions, largely within the Somali-American community in Minneapolis, with allegations that some illicit funds were even funneled to overseas terrorist groups.
Omar finds herself in increasingly hot water as the political fallout widens. Beyond the immediate fraud, she is facing pressure regarding allegations of immigration fraud among her constituents and claims that whistleblowers who tried to expose the theft were retaliated against by state officials.
The scandal has also ensnared her ally, Governor Tim Walz, whose administration is under federal investigation for oversight failures. With the House Oversight Committee launching probes and opponents seizing on her defensive responses, Omar’s political future is becoming a central battleground in the 2026 cycle.
