On July 28, 2025, at around 6:30 p.m. EDT, a lone gunman attacked the Midtown Manhattan office building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses offices for the NFL, Blackstone, KPMG, and Rudin Management.
The assailant, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, entered in a bulletproof vest and armed with an M4-style rifle, opening fire in the lobby and on the 33rd floor before fatally shooting himself.
Four people were killed, including Off-Duty NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old Bronx resident and father of two with a third child on the way.
Among the other victims was Wesley LePatner, a Blackstone executive. A fifth person, an employee of the National Football League, sustained critical injuries but was reported in stable condition.
Authorities noted that Tamura had a documented history of mental health issues and carried a note referencing chronic traumatic encephalopathy, blaming the NFL for his condition.
Investigators say he drove cross country from Las Vegas, entered a black BMW outside the building, and acted alone.
The FBI and local police continue probing his motives and background, though preliminary reports suggest that he was targeting the NFL offices due to head injuries he suffered in playing the sport.
