NYC deserves better than Mamdani

New York City deserves better than Zohran Mamdani. The 33-year-old assemblyman from Queens is a self-described democratic socialist, an outspoken anti-Zionist, and a politician whose views conflict with the city’s diverse, pluralistic character. His rise within New York politics has become both a warning for the city and a test for voters who value stability and common sense in governance.
Mamdani’s record and rhetoric reveal a hardline progressive agenda. He has called for rent cancellation, police defunding, and an expanded version of “Medicare for All.” His foreign policy views include isolating Israel and expressing sympathy toward authoritarian regimes. In his public comments, he has praised the “global intifada,” compared U.S. border enforcement to apartheid, and supported boycotts of Jewish-owned businesses within his district.
For residents of New York, his proposals would have immediate consequences. Crime is rising, housing costs remain unsustainable, and small businesses continue to close under heavy financial strain. Policies such as eliminating cash bail, converting private property into “social housing,” and increasing taxes on working families would accelerate the city’s economic decline. Mamdani’s antagonism toward law enforcement has already encouraged unrest in parts of his district, raising concerns about the potential effects if his movement gains broader influence in Albany.
Yet Mamdani’s growing prominence has also clarified the stakes in New York’s political direction. His radicalism highlights a clear divide between those who want to preserve order, opportunity, and public safety, and those who wish to replace them with untested social experiments. For many New Yorkers, the choice ahead may determine whether their city remains livable, or continues its steady unraveling.
