The House Oversight Committee issued a series of subpoenas Tuesday demanding records from the Department of Justice and testimony from several high-profile former officials as part of its investigation into the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Chairman James Comer announced that the Justice Department must provide complete case files, with victim names redacted, by August 19.
In addition, depositions have been scheduled through the fall for former Attorneys General William Barr, Alberto Gonzales, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, and Merrick Garland, as well as former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller.
The most notable subpoenas were directed at former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who are scheduled to testify in October. While it is uncertain whether they will appear, their inclusion signals the committee’s intent to examine political and prosecutorial decisions across multiple administrations.
Lawmakers say the goal is to establish transparency in how Epstein was investigated and prosecuted, particularly surrounding controversial plea deals and non-prosecution agreements. The move follows bipartisan calls for greater accountability after Justice Department officials previously stated no comprehensive “abuser list” exists.
The committee indicated that findings could inform future legislation on sex trafficking and prosecutorial practices.
