President Donald Trump told reporters this week at Palm Beach International Airport that grocery prices this holiday season are dropping, and hinted at more price relief to come as his administration works to address the Biden-sparked affordability issue in the U.S.
“We’re going to have some little price reductions and, in some cases, we’re going to have some pretty good ones,” he said, looking toward the future.
The president cited data from Walmart and said that, broadly, some Thanksgiving grocery prices had dropped about 25 percent.
“A Thanksgiving meal and surroundings are 25 percent lower than it was under the Biden administration,” the president stated.
According to the White House, Walmart has indeed seen a significant price reduction in its standard basket of Thanksgiving food, at a 25 percent price drop, and the lowest turkey prices it has offered since 2019, during President Trump’s first term in office.
“The affordability is much, much better with us,” the president told reporters on Sunday evening, when contrasting his administration against Joe Biden’s.
Per the White House:
“President Donald J. Trump promised to crush inflation and lower prices — and he’s delivering this Thanksgiving, with the classic holiday feast about 3% cheaper than last year, according to a brand new report. Americans are seeing across-the-board price declines for the holiday staples, with dinner rolls down 22%, frozen vegetables down 15%, and items like turkeys, stuffing, gravy mix, fresh cranberries, and pumpkin pies all costing less.”
Across the board, retailers are generally reporting lower grocery prices for Thanksgiving food, too. Outlets like Aldi’s and Target are also seeing a major cost reduction, with Aldi’s clocking in at $7 cheaper than in 2024 for holiday food, and Target offering holiday meals for families of four at under $5 per person.
On Friday, President Trump also signed an executive order dropping tariffs on dozens of key imported grocery items like coffee, bananas, tea, cocoa, spices, beef, and more, in a bid to further continue price relief for fatigued Americans.
