President Donald Trump praised the bravery of one heroic community member in Bend, Oregon, this week, who stepped in and stopped a mass shooter from continuing a horrific spree of violence.
“There was a great hero,” President Trump told reporters at the White House. “And it could have been…as bad as it was, we had a great hero…he took care of business, and thank God we had him; otherwise, it would have been much worse. That’s a terrible thing, but thank goodness for a man who had a gun and knew how to use it.”
A devastating shooting at an Oregon elementary school in Bend dominated the headlines this week, as a crazed teen burst on campus and began firing – but one father took action to end what could have been an even worse tragedy.
According to a report from the New York Post, Kaylub Giamanco allegedly rushed into Silver Rail Elementary School when he saw a teen shooter enter the campus on Thursday around 1:00 PM. Giamanco allegedly shot and killed the murderer – before law enforcement even took action.
Giamanco is reportedly one of the attending students’ fathers.
His heroic actions have been praised by Americans across the nation.
Horrifically, three children and one teacher were killed this week in the shooting, and two others were critically injured, CBS News reported. The suspect is dead, allegedly killed by heroic bystander Giamanco. The outlet said law enforcement identified the shooter as 16-year-old John Griffin. At this time, little details have been released about Griffin’s alleged motivations, or whether he had any personal connection to the school.
During a Thursday press briefing, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek (D) praised Giamanco’s alleged actions. “To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life, you actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well,” she said.
Kotek continued, “This is a horrible day, no parent should have to have this kind of day, and no community should have to live through this kind of day.”
