When pressed by our reporter on voter ID laws, Democrat Rep. @TedLieu admitted that requiring proof of citizenship to vote could backfire – but not for the reasons you’d expect.

“It’s sort of hard to show citizenship… a lot of Americans don’t have a passport or can’t find their birth certificate.”

Lieu echoed @RepJeffries, who called citizenship verification “voter suppression.” But then he went further:

“It might actually affect Republicans more than Democrats.”
