Federal agents reportedly raided the home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, as the Trump Department of Justice and Homeland Security apparently continue an ongoing federal probe into the congresswoman’s life – an investigation that has remained somewhat scant on details.
“I’m ok,” Omar said in a statement released Monday morning.
She continued, “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
The specifics of the ongoing investigation have not been shared with the public, but it could be centered on immigration issues. According to Fox News, two sources “close to the investigation” told the outlet that the federal raid on Monday was potentially linked to alleged immigration paperwork.
Omar was born in Somalia. She has taken heat over repeated claims by political opponents that she allegedly married her brother in 2009 to fraudulently immigrate into the U.S. (This has not been proven, but it is a point of debate among some)
“I tried to subpoena Ilhan Omar and her brother-husband’s immigration records,” said Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) on Monday.
She continued, “Both parties blocked it in Oversight. This morning HSI raided her home with a judicially authorized warrant, presumably over the same paperwork. If the fraud is proven, she should be denaturalized and deported home to Somalia.”
According to Fox, Omar’s financial disclosures have recently drawn attention, with significant swings in alleged assets between 2024 and 2025 (a drop of potentially millions between one year and the next). Omar has not offered any clear explanation for the financial disclosures that have been unveiled thus far.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) – a political ally to Omar – weighed in on the situation on Monday.
“For years, the Trump admin has launched slanderous attacks against Rep. Omar,” she wrote in a statement. “This morning, the administration sent federal officials to raid her home. We cannot and will not accept this unprecedented abuse of power. I stand with @Ilhan.”
