The new enemy of the people
By Easton Martin | January 8, 2026
Free press is a vital part of our society, and a hallmark of the American way. Major networks have however become not so much interested in honest and clear reporting, but instead obsess over dissenting with the current administration.
Many Americans have watched as corporate media consistently frames U.S. foreign policy actions, including recent developments involving Venezuela, through a lens of automatic skepticism. That same hostility seems to follow nearly everything President Trump does, regardless of context or substance. Criticism is not the problem. The problem arises when criticism becomes selective, predictable, and driven by political divisions and dissent.
It is fair of us to ask whether profit incentives or partisan loyalties have overtaken the mission of objective reporting. Sensational headlines and selective framing generate clicks and advertising revenue, but they also deepen national divisions and create cynicism.
Our own media institutions are working against our country’s interests, something has gone badly wrong.
