Trump breaks with Netanyahu on Gaza

President Donald Trump has publicly broken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by acknowledging “real starvation” in Gaza.
Speaking on July 28, 2025, at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, Trump said television images of starving children are unmistakable, declaring, “Some of those kids are… that’s real starvation stuff.” He urged Israel to allow “every ounce of food” into Gaza, directly challenging Netanyahu’s assertion that there is no hunger crisis in the territory.
Trump announced plans to work with European allies to establish food distribution centers in Gaza, emphasizing that there should be “no fences” so people can access aid more easily.
His remarks come amidst a UN backed warning from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification that a potential worst case famine is developing in Gaza. The group reports widespread starvation, malnutrition, and hunger related deaths, particularly among children, and says only major humanitarian intervention can avert catastrophe.
