Trump goes to bat for Sydney Sweeney as left gnashes its teeth over jeans campaign
After actress Sydney Sweeney’s ‘American Eagle’ jeans campaign drew criticism from radical left internet trolls, Trump released an entertaining statement slamming ‘woke’ advertising

President Donald Trump on Monday weighed in on a viral cultural moment, coming to the defense of a well-known actress who has been inexplicably targeted for appearing in a fairly standard clothing advertisement.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!” Trump wrote.
After the campaign for American Eagle denim jeans went viral, liberal internet trolls worked overtime in late July to label the campaign – starring actress Sydney Sweeney – as racist.
The campaign in question features Sweeney wearing the brand’s denim with the cheeky tagline, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” See an example of the ad campaign here:
Since its release, internet trolls and even some mainstream media outlets have inferred that the ad was racist or “controversial,” essentially because Sweeney is a Caucasian woman. The campaign facetiously toys with the idea of having “good genes” by utilizing a play on words.
This has upset some people online. For example, in one widely shared social media clip, an African American woman says that she can’t shop at American Eagle “because I’m Black.”
In another viral social media video, a woman slammed Sweeney for appearing in a jeans commercial, claiming that “you don’t get denim blue without Black hands,” while arguing that denim belongs to the African American community.
“Sweeney’s ‘great jeans’ ad was intended to celebrate the clothing company’s flattering cuts. Now critics have accused her, and American Eagle, of flirting with eugenic imagery,” wrote Vanity Fair last week.
America Eagle has refused to apologize for its campaign. In a statement posted to the company’s Instagram account, the brand said, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
In his statement, President Trump addressed the problem with “Woke” advertising and celebrities, slamming companies like Jaguar and Bud Lite for their attempts at politically correct campaigns.
“The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump said.
