Trump says tariffs have raked in a WHOPPING $88 billion so far
The president announced the number during remarks at the White House on Thursday, stating that this information came from Congress

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States had taken in $88 billion in tariff-based revenue, indicating changing winds for the American economy since he took office just a few months ago.
The president discussed the “$88 billion” during remarks delivered at the White House this week, championing the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump said he found out about the revenue during a phone call from Congress during discussions about the legislation.
It’s unclear what the final numbers will be for June, but according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s 2025 Budget Summary, the United States earned at least $23 billion in customs-duties revenue in May 2025, representing a 270 percent increase in tariff income from last May, when Biden was in office.
To put that in perspective, the Treasury’s monthly statement reported around $8 billion in customs-duties revenue in March, before the implementation of President Trump’s tariff policies.
This week, legacy media outlet CNN admitted that the U.S. economy was on the uptick with record-high numbers on the stock market. “It’s been flirting with a new record,” one anchor said. “…It really is remarkable.”
She also noted that the “fear” of a recession was taken “off the table” in the wake of Trump’s tariff negotiations with major nations like China, perhaps contributing to the rosier outlook on the market from investors.
Additionally, many companies are rushing to move the core of their production to the domestic United States to avoid paying high tariffs. President Trump announced, for example, that Texas Instruments, a semiconductor company, will spend at least $60 billion in the U.S.
This adds to the trillions of dollars already pledged to U.S. investment from companies like Apple, NVIDIA, IBM, Micron Technology, and many more.
“They’re all coming in because they don’t want to pay the tariffs…and it only works for the United States,” Trump said on Thursday.
