Stopping illegal immigration was a cornerstone of President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, and last month, the most recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection proved that he has followed through on his promises.
According to the CBP, Border Patrol released “zero illegal aliens” into the United States in May. By contrast, 62,000 illegal entrants crossed into the interior of the U.S. in May 2024 when Joe Biden was president.
“Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93% decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year,” said CBP Acting Commissioner Pete Flores in an official statement.
Border Patrol encountered 8,725 illegal aliens crossing the southwest border in May 2025. According to the CBP, these encounters took place between ports of entry and still represented a 93 percent decrease from last year, when encounters hit 117,905.
“Border numbers continue to trend at historic lows, reinforcing the sustained success of our enforcement efforts in securing the homeland and protecting American communities,” Flores added.
CBP additionally seized 718 pounds of fentanyl last month as law enforcement cracks down on illegal drug trafficking at the border.
This border triumph represents a big victory for President Trump, and he hasn’t been shy about highlighting this success.
“Zero Border crossings for the month for TRUMP, verses 60,000 for Sleepy, Crooked Joe Biden, a man who lost the 2020 Presidential Election by a ‘LANDSLIDE!’” the president wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
Trump scorched Biden as “grossly incompetent” and slammed the 2020 presidential election as “a total FRAUD!”
President Trump’s commitment to securing U.S. sovereignty could potentially be codified in his lauded “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which would provide ongoing funding for construction of the southern border wall, additional hiring for Border Patrol and ICE, and annual bonuses for those agents.
