Next Tuesday, September 9, the House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing titled “Restoring Public Trust Through UAP Transparency and Whistleblower Protection.” The session is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Capitol in Washington D.C. This hearing will focus on the government’s handling of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, often called UAPs, and the need for transparency in sharing information with the public.
Lawmakers plan to examine the Department of Defense and the intelligence community’s procedures for investigating and disclosing UAP encounters. The hearing will also look at protections for whistleblowers who report incidents or evidence that may not have been fully released. Public trust in government agencies has been strained in recent years due to delays and inconsistencies in reporting UAP sightings, and the committee aims to address these concerns.
Several witnesses are scheduled to testify, including U.S. Air Force veterans who have encountered unexplained phenomena, individuals who have observed UAPs firsthand, and investigative journalists who have covered UAP incidents. These testimonies are expected to provide insights into what government agencies have documented and how that information has been handled internally.
A key focus will be the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO, the Pentagon office responsible for investigating UAPs across air, land, sea, and space domains. Lawmakers will question how the office conducts investigations, evaluates evidence, and communicates findings. The goal is to assess whether the office is effectively fulfilling its mission and whether more transparency is needed to keep the public informed.
Chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna of Florida has emphasized the importance of restoring public confidence in the process. She argues that citizens have a right to understand what government agencies know about unexplained aerial phenomena and to be assured that individuals reporting unusual activity are protected from retaliation.
The hearing is expected to draw attention from both lawmakers and the public as interest in UAPs continues to rise. Questions about the origin, nature, and frequency of these phenomena have fueled speculation for decades. This hearing represents an effort to bring more clarity to the discussion and to ensure that information about UAPs is handled responsibly and transparently.
Whether this hearing will lead to concrete policy changes or more widespread disclosure remains to be seen. For now, it marks one of the most high-profile congressional efforts to investigate UAPs and hold agencies accountable for the information they collect.
