40 million Americans are about to lose SNAP benefits, thanks to Democrats
Amid the ongoing government shutdown, millions of Americans stand to lose access to SNAP benefits on November 1

Millions of Americans may soon be hit hard by the Democrat-led government shutdown, as SNAP benefits are set to expire for at least 40 million people, with some predicting that this may spark a food crisis not seen since the Great Depression.
According to a banner on the USDA’s official website, “the well has run dry,”
“At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01,” it read. “We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance.”
Amid Democrats’ refusal to vote for a continuing resolution in the Senate, Republican Senator Josh Hawley (Mo.) has introduced two bills to reinstate SNAP benefits and farm programs during this shutdown.
According to a press release from Hawley’s office:
“The Keep SNAP Funded Act would ensure full funding for the SNAP program during the government shutdown. Under the bill, Congress would appropriate the necessary funding to provide uninterrupted SNAP benefits, retroactive to the start of the shutdown.
The Fund Farm Programs Act would reopen all Farm Service Agency (FSA) Offices and ensure resumed services for all FSA programs that farmers rely on. The USDA will be appropriated the necessary funding to provide resumed services for farmers through FSA offices, retroactive to the start of the shutdown.”
Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration would support this legislation from Hawley, but noted that “the bill that will get everyone paid and put everyone back to work is the clean continuing resolution – that’s what the president and Republicans want to see.”
However, as political turmoil continues in D.C., Americans are nevertheless gearing up for at least a temporary pause to their benefits, and some people are stepping up to help ensure no one goes hungry during this time.
DoorDash – the popular food delivery app – has launched an “Emergency Food Response” in anticipation of the upcoming stop to benefits, committing to delivering one million meals for free to more than 300 Project Dash food bank partners.
Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R) is also working to put together a list of local food resources for those who find themselves in need of assistance.
She wrote on X, “My office is putting together a list of local food resources for anyone who needs help — but let’s be clear: this is NOT okay. Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times against reopening and funding these essential programs. Enough is enough.”
