A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam was forced to divert after encountering severe turbulence that left 25 people injured.
The Airbus A330‑900, operating as Delta Flight 56, struck sudden turbulence over Wyoming about 45 minutes into the flight.
The crew diverted the aircraft to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, where it landed safely around 7:45 p.m. local time. Emergency personnel met the plane on the tarmac, and 25 passengers and crew members were transported to area hospitals with injuries that included fractures and head trauma.
Delta confirmed the incident in a statement and said it is cooperating with authorities to review the circumstances. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is monitoring the case. Turbulence remains the leading cause of in‑flight injuries in commercial aviation, though fatal incidents are extremely rare.
