A cult, a multi-million dollar company, a YouTuber, and the story mainstream media won’t touch
By Easton Martin | September 4, 2026
When you hear the claim that there is a news story which no news outlet is willing to report on, you may assume that the story is fake, or that there must be some good reason for this. Certainly the mainstream news wants to cover the truth at any cost, right? Is that not what journalism is all about? That is precisely why the latest investigation from YouTuber “Reckless Ben” piqued my interest.
Reckless Ben, whose real name is Benjamin Schneider, has built a substantial audience through investigations involving alleged fraudsters and controversial organizations. His YouTube channel now has approximately 2.36 million subscribers and more than 134 million cumulative views. His latest investigation has generated an extraordinary amount of attention.
The documentary titled “The Company Funding a Global Human Trafficking Ring” was published August 29. Publicly tracked figures currently place the video above nine million views with hundreds of thousands of likes and tens of thousands of comments. Such a level of attention makes the absence of major national coverage hard to overlook.

The investigation centers around Ideal Living and its founder Peter Spiegel. Ideal Living operates brands including AirDoctor and AquaTru while Spiegel serves as the company’s founder and co-CEO. What makes the story interesting involves Spiegel’s documented relationship with a religious organization and its convicted former leader.
That organization is Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat, commonly abbreviated as JKP. Its American operation was associated with Barsana Dham in Hays County Texas. Public records and contemporary reporting establish that Spiegel held leadership responsibilities within the organization during the period surrounding the case against Prakashanand Saraswati.
Saraswati faced twenty counts involving indecency with children. Those charges concerned allegations involving two underage girls during the 1990s. The case eventually produced a conviction on all twenty counts and a sentence totaling 280 years.
Another part of the documented history involves Saraswati’s ability to leave America. Spiegel personally pledged a ten million dollar guarantee that enabled Saraswati to obtain his passport and travel to India while awaiting further proceedings. Contemporary reporting described the arrangement as highly unusual.
Saraswati eventually disappeared before sentencing. Hays County later recovered approximately 1.2 million dollars through forfeited funds and a settlement involving Spiegel.
These facts were reported by established news organizations years before Reckless Ben became involved. The Austin American-Statesman reported on Spiegel’s financial guarantee and organizational position in 2008. United Press International separately reported on connections between infomercial businesses and the Texas religious organization.
The newer and substantially more explosive allegation concerns what happened afterward. Reckless Ben’s investigation features former employees and former members who allege that Ideal Living functioned as an important financial mechanism for JKP. Those individuals further allege that the organization facilitated systematic sexual abuse involving minors.
One former Ideal Living employee identified as Myra Nishizaki plays an especially important role. Nishizaki filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Ideal Living and Spiegel in Los Angeles County during 2023. Her lawsuit was ultimately dismissed with prejudice in June 2025.
That dismissal does not establish that her underlying allegations were true or false. Civil complaints contain allegations rather than judicial findings unless those allegations become established through litigation or other evidence. That becomes especially important when evaluating an investigation making accusations of this magnitude.
There is nevertheless additional historical evidence surrounding the organization. Contemporary reporting documented Saraswati’s conviction and Spiegel’s financial involvement. More recent research has also identified corporate and organizational records connecting Spiegel with JKP entities. Connections of this nature provide legitimate reasons for journalists to investigate further.
The media blackout allegation is perhaps the most intriguing part of the entire story. According to the documentary, Nishizaki and another source had previously approached journalists at major publications including Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times. They reportedly believed substantial reporting was underway before communication abruptly stopped.
The documentary also describes attempts to bring the allegations before a much larger gathering of journalists. According to the account presented by Reckless Ben, roughly 350 journalists were approached at an investigative reporting conference. The source claims that newsrooms were already aware of the allegations yet declined to pursue publication.
At some point, however, refusing to publish becomes difficult to distinguish from deliberately burying a story. Major news organizations routinely devote enormous resources to investigating allegations involving powerful institutions and influential individuals. Yet in this case, journalists who were presented with extensive allegations apparently chose silence rather than pursuing the story publicly.
Their silence becomes particularly difficult to understand given the documented history surrounding the people involved. The underlying connections are not merely internet rumors created for sensational attention. Court records and contemporary reporting establish significant portions of the history described in the investigation.
If major news organizations believed the allegations were false, they had every opportunity to demonstrate why. If they believed the evidence was inadequate, they could have explained what was missing. The apparent decision to simply stop engaging with the sources in dramatic and sudden fashion ought to make us wonder what they were told.
The public deserves better than journalists disappearing when an investigation becomes uncomfortable. News organizations constantly tell Americans that holding powerful people accountable represents one of journalism’s highest responsibilities. This story presents an opportunity to determine whether that principle actually applies when the allegations become difficult to handle.
There are also reasons to take Reckless Ben’s investigation seriously. His documentary is built around extensive interviews, documentary evidence, historical reporting, and testimony from individuals who were directly connected to the organizations involved. The investigation has also attracted millions of viewers who are independently examining the evidence presented.
The sheer scale of the public response makes the lack of mainstream attention even more remarkable. This is no longer an obscure allegation circulating within a small online community. Millions of Americans have now watched the investigation and are asking why major newsrooms apparently chose not to pursue the same questions.
Reckless Ben does not need to be treated as infallible for his investigation to deserve serious consideration. The evidence should be examined on its merits and compared against the documentary record. At this point, the evidence presented certainly appears compelling enough to justify substantial independent reporting.
The burden now falls upon established news organizations to explain their silence. They have the resources, investigative staff, legal departments, and institutional credibility necessary to determine what actually happened. If they truly believe there is nothing to this story, they should investigate it and tell the public why.
