Ahead of midterms, Trump says he will sign EO to eliminate mail-in ballots, voting machines
The president announced his push to axe what have become controversial methods of voting and tabulation in the United States

In the aftermath of 2020, Americans have been broadly concerned about the safety and security of U.S. elections – an issue that President Trump has recently vowed to address.
“I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we’re at it, Highly ‘Inaccurate,’ Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES, which cost Ten Times more than accurate and sophisticated Watermark Paper, which is faster, and leaves NO DOUBT, at the end of the evening, as to who WON, and who LOST, the Election,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
President Trump has consistently alleged that the 2020 election was “rigged and stolen,” often pointing to sluggish days-long or even weeks-long mail-in vote-counting processes and potential problems with voting software.
President Donald Trump even told Fox News that in his recent high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader asserted that Trump had won the presidential election in 2020, despite the official narrative.
“Vladimir Putin said something, one of the most interesting things,” Trump noted. “He said, ‘Your election was rigged because you have mail-in voting.’ He said, ‘Mail-in voting every election.’ He said no country has mail-in voting. It’s impossible to have mail-in voting and have honest elections.”
President Trump and Putin are not the only ones discussing or concerned about potential electoral fraud.
In 2024, an NPR/PBS/Marist poll found that a whopping 6 in 10 Americans said they were “concerned or very concerned that there will be voter fraud this election.”
More recently, a poll from Rasmussen found that 73 percent of U.S. likely voters support the concept of implementing voter I.D. requirements as a reasonable measure to protect election integrity.
“We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting,” Trump continued in his statement. “All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED. WE WILL BEGIN THIS EFFORT, WHICH WILL BE STRONGLY OPPOSED BY THE DEMOCRATS BECAUSE THEY CHEAT AT LEVELS NEVER SEEN BEFORE, by signing an EXECUTIVE ORDER to help bring HONESTY to the 2026 Midterm Elections.”
The president argued that the states are merely an “agent” for the federal government in tabulating votes. “They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY, to do.”
He slammed mail-in ballots as a “SCAM” and said elections could “NEVER BE HONEST” if that method of voting is used.
“THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX, USING VOTING MACHINES THAT ARE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER, MUST END, NOW!!! REMEMBER, WITHOUT FAIR AND HONEST ELECTIONS, AND STRONG AND POWERFUL BORDERS, YOU DON’T HAVE EVEN A SEMBLANCE OF A COUNTRY,” he said.
