Elon Musk made a surprising promise on Monday, following in the footsteps of Michael and Susan Dell’s generosity in donating to America’s children.
The tech titan vowed to give one SpaceX share to every child in America in 2027.
“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” he wrote on X. “This will be the first of many.”
Michael Dell – who recently donated, along with his wife, billions to the Trump administration’s “Trump Investment Accounts” for American children – praised Musk’s announcement.
“This is tremendous news for America’s children,” Dell stated on social media. “An entire generation will grow up as SpaceX owners. “Well done @elonmusk!”
Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley remarked, “Elon Musk truly cares about humanity and America. Very generous of him.”
This announcement from Musk comes just one day after Anthropic, a rival AI company to xAI, announced its intention to commit a portion of its shares (5 percent) to the “Anthropic Public Benefit Fund.” The company said it will also add 2 percent at the board’s discretion for every 50 percent in the company’s value “above a set baseline.”
According to recent data (2025), there are roughly 72 million children in the United States today who are under the age of 18. Shares of SpaceX are currently trading at about $148 on the market right now, putting Musk’s projected donation of shares at a value of roughly $10.7 billion.
Such a pledge, if it materializes, would likely represent Musk’s biggest charitable donation to date, surpassing even his whopping $5.7 billion Tesla stock donation to the Musk Foundation in 2021.
Musk is also reportedly the biggest midterm donor of the 2026 election cycle, clocking in with a whopping $276 million donation across Republican groups since July, the NYT previously reported.
