China’s Xi Jinping to visit America this week and meet with President Trump
President Xi’s visit to the U.S. comes amid a turbulent and difficult time in the world, as war in the Middle East and Eastern Europe continue. Here’s what Xi and President Trump are expected to discuss.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States this week, where he is expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed the trip on Monday. Xi will visit between September 23 and 25.
According to Channel News Asia, Xi is expected to discuss major issues in Chinese-U.S. relations, “as well as world peace and development.”
This trip marks the second major summit between Trump and Xi this year. The American president visited Beijing in an extremely high-profile visit in May, where the two men discussed a wide range of subjects.
Since that visit, the war with Iran has continued, and so has the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday, “China is willing to work with the US to … strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences, continuously enhance the well-being of the peoples of both countries, and promote world peace, stability and prosperity.”
The president’s visit with Xi will be integral, especially as a new Russian sanctions bill was recently signed – giving President Trump the ability to tariff China up to 100 percent (as one of Russia’s top energy buyers) if he so chooses.
The U.S. and China are also competing to innovate as quickly as possible on artificial intelligence, so this topic is likely to be top of mind for both leaders this week.
According to KCRA3, President Trump is expected to meet Xi at Joint Base Andrews when he arrives on Wednesday.
President Trump told reporters on Friday, “We’re going to have a lot of different deals. We’re not just doing it for our health. We’re going to have some pretty important meetings. You know, China is paying us a lot of tariffs. But we’re doing very well with China and President Xi, and I have a good relationship.”
