DOJ issues public warning about the Epstein files

The Department of Justice issued a public warning this week regarding renewed attention to materials associated with the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, cautioning that claims appearing in the Epstein files should not be treated as established fact.
In a post on social media, the DOJ emphasized that the release or circulation of documents that reference public figures, including President Trump, does not amount to proof of wrongdoing. The department noted that investigative files often contain unverified allegations, secondhand claims, and raw material gathered during inquiries that may never be substantiated.
The DOJ also warned that a significant number of documents and images circulating online in connection with Epstein are fabricated or altered. Officials said false materials have been mixed with legitimate records, creating confusion and increasing the risk that unverified or fake claims are presented as official findings.
According to the department, the presence of a name in investigative records does not imply criminal conduct, nor does it reflect any determination by prosecutors. The DOJ has stressed that conclusions about guilt or innocence can only be made through verified evidence and formal legal proceedings.
