Eric Swalwell is a perfect example of how not to campaign for Governor

Eric Swalwell is running for governor of California with a strange priority. He claims his main goal is to hold Donald Trump accountable. This, however, is the primary problem with Democrat governors today. These politicians have no idea what their job actually is. A governor is first and foremost charged with running their state. They are supposed to fix the many problems within their own borders.
The idea of a governor focusing on federal accountability is absurd. Swalwell is running for a state executive office, he isn’t running for a position in the Department of Justice. Let’s be honest, what could he possibly do that Gavin Newsom hasn’t already tried? This obsession with the President is a distraction from real duty. Swalwell is making himself look foolish by ignoring the reality of the office he seeks.
California has a long list of massive problems, there is no doubt about that. The state struggles with a high cost of living and rising crime. Homelessness is a constant issue in every major city, and it is insulting for a candidate to ignore these disasters. A leader should focus on the people they are supposed to serve, yet Swalwell would rather chase national headlines than fix a broken state. This is a betrayal of the basic responsibilities of a governor.
This behavior is not surprising given the current leadership in Sacramento. Swalwell is simply following the example of Gavin Newsom. Newsom has spent years treating California like a platform for his national ambitions. He prioritizes his brand of political theater over the safety and stability of his constituents. Candidates now believe that fighting Washington is more important than managing a state budget.
A governor should stay in their lane and focus on the citizens at home. California needs a leader who understands the limits and the requirements of the job. It does not need another politician who views the governorship as a tool for a personal vendetta. It is time for candidates to stop acting like activists and self absorbed heroes.
