Legendary WWE superstar Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, has died at age 71. According to family representatives, he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, early Thursday and was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Hogan became a global icon in the 1980s, leading the rise of professional wrestling into mainstream entertainment. He headlined eight of the first nine WrestleMania events and was the face of what became known as “Hulkamania.” A six-time WWF/WWE Champion and two-time Royal Rumble winner, he later shocked fans by forming the infamous New World Order faction in WCW. Hogan also appeared in films such as Rocky III and starred in the reality series Hogan Knows Best.
Just last year, he appeared on stage at the Republican National Convention. Tributes have poured in from across the wrestling and political world.
