Is Senator Jon Ossoff profiting off the government shutdown?
By Easton Martin | October 22, 2025
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has accused Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff of raising over $3 million in online donations while the government shutdown rages on.
As the shutdown enters its fourth week, roughly 730,000 federal employees are working without pay, while another 670,000 have been furloughed, according to an estimate from the Bipartisan Policy Center. If Scalise’s claims are accurate, Ossoff has been milking this shutdown for all it’s worth while hundreds of thousands of Americans go without pay.
One doesn’t have to look far for Ossoff’s donation ads. As of today, the first thing that appears on Google when searching “Jon Ossoff” is an advertisement for “Donate to Jon Ossoff,” paid for by Jon Ossoff for Senate.
