Opinion: It’s time for Congress to pass the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ this week
Opinion-editorial by Summer Lane | June 30, 2025
This week, President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” enters the homestretch of legislative debate, enduring a busy “vote-a-rama” in the U.S. Senate before it can be sent back to the House for approval.
Republicans have worked strenuously to get the bill passed as quickly as possible, aiming to send the legislation to the president’s desk for signing on July 4.
There has been much debate about the contents of the megalithic-sized bill, which includes a slate of Agenda47 action items promised by President Donald Trump while campaigning in 2024.
“ONE GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL, is moving along nicely! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday night, following the bill’s procedural approval for a final vote.
U.S. Senators during the “vote-a-rama” will be able to introduce as many amendments as they desire and call for votes on each one, as reported by LindellTV. This could result in stall tactics from the Democrats on the legislation, but with a Republican majority in the Senate, it is likely the bill will still pass.
If the Republicans want to meet their self-imposed July 4 deadline to get the legislation to President Trump’s desk, the bill must pass in the Senate as soon as possible to get it back to the House of Representatives to approve changes to the act.
President Trump last week called the bill “one of the most important pieces of legislation in the history of our country.”
During an event championing the legislation at the White House, he noted, “The day I sign this bill most every major promise made in the 2024 campaign already will have become a promise kept – promises made, promises, kept!”
It’s high time Republicans in Congress came together and unified powerfully behind the president’s agenda and worked to deliver on the promises that got Trump elected.
Let’s deliver a massive tax reduction for Americans
President Trump’s OBBB promises to not only make the Trump Tax Cuts permanent, but it will expand them significantly. In a country burdened by overregulation and obscene taxation, such a concept is a breath of fresh air.
The OBBB will eliminate taxes on tips and overtime – a hugely popular campaign item from 2024. It will also expand the child tax credit to $2,500 for each American family.
Additionally, it could even result in an extra $10,000 in the pockets of American families, according to the White House, thanks to the proposed tax cuts for working-class citizens. The White House has also projected that working-class Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will pay 15 percent less in taxes.
Finally, the bill will establish “Trump Savings Accounts” for newborn babies – government-issued and funded accounts that will help children “experience the miracle of compounded growth.”
Border security is essential, and Republicans MUST vote to fund it
Securing the U.S. border and restoring American law and order was an integral component of President Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. The OBBB proposes finishing Trump’s border wall by building over 700 more miles of primary wall, hundreds of miles of river barriers, and nearly 630 miles of secondary barriers.
The bill will also fund the hiring of 10,000 new Border Patrol and ICE agents. Further, these critical agents will also receive $10,000 annual bonuses for the next four years to reward them for their dangerous and hard work protecting American sovereignty.
When it comes to securing the safety of American citizens, the OBBB delivers, and Republicans should unify behind it on that one issue alone.
The OBBB is for the WORKING man, not the BILLIONAIRES
Despite Democrat narratives, the OBBB is geared toward helping the working man and woman catch a break in an economy that was left wrecked and ravaged by Joe Biden.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers the largest middle- and working-class tax cut in U.S. history,” the White House pointed out in a rebuttal to the claim that the bill benefits only rich Americans.
“The President’s legislation will put more than $10,000 a year back in the pockets of typical hardworking families. This is the most pro-growth, pro-worker, pro-family legislation ever crafted,” the statement continued.
Easing the tax burden on America’s workers – whether they are service-based workers, law enforcement officers, or teachers – benefits the people, not the richest members of society.
It is not a bill for billionaires. It’s a bill for border security, tax reduction, and common-sense economic stimulation and welfare reform.
It’s time to cross the finish line, Congress
To Congress: it’s time to cut the political grandstanding and coalesce as one unified Republican Party behind President Trump’s vision to bring relief to hardworking Americans everywhere.
Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought said in May that the OBBB would provide the largest mandatory savings reform since 1997 – a historic milestone, if Congress passes the legislation.
Passing the OBBB this week, just in time for the 249th birthday of American independence, would be the cherry on top of President Trump’s lightning-paced agenda in the White House, ensuring his policy items are codified long-term for citizens everywhere who are yearning for a rosier future for their families.
