Two National Guard members shot near White House

Two members of the West Virginia National Guard were shot Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C., just blocks from the White House, authorities confirmed. The shooting occurred around 17th Street and I Street NW near Farragut Square Park.

Police say a single suspect is in custody. Emergency crews transported three individuals to a hospital, including the two guardsmen and the suspect.

Authorities have not identified a motive. Law enforcement rapidly secured the scene as federal and local agencies opened an investigation into the attack near several high security federal buildings.
