President Donald Trump delivered a combative address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, marking his first appearance at the global forum since returning to the White House.
In a speech that spanned over an hour, Trump criticized the United Nations for its perceived ineffectiveness and accused it of exacerbating global issues. He questioned the organization’s utility, stating, “What is the purpose of the United Nations? All they seem to do is write a really strongly worded letter. It’s empty words, and empty words don’t solve war.”
He further stated that the UN had “funded an assault” on Western countries through support for illegal migration, which he argued was leading to societal decline. Trump also mocked the UN’s infrastructure, mentioning a broken escalator and teleprompter at its New York headquarters as symbols of its dysfunction.
On climate change, Trump dismissed global environmental efforts as “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” urging nations to abandon green energy initiatives. He contended that such policies harm economies and emphasized the United States’ vast fossil fuel reserves.
The president also addressed European leaders, criticizing their handling of immigration and energy policies. He warned that their countries were being “ruined” by unchecked migration and reliance on Russian energy, urging them to adopt more stringent measures to protect their sovereignty.
Perhaps President Trump’s words on unchecked immigration ought to be taken seriously. European countries have been overrun and in some instances, overtaken by large groups of middle east and African immigrants. While citizens of European countries have been complaining for years now, their leaders have continued to turn a blind eye.
