Trump State Department axes more than 175,000 visas
The U.S. Department of State, under the leadership of Secretary Marco Rubio, has yanked more than 175,000 visas, according to the agency.

The U.S. State Department under the Trump administration has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals who violated the terms of their visas or committed crimes, according to the agency.
Visas were additionally yanked for those who called for violence against U.S. citizens, those who defrauded the American people, and individuals who abused the immigration system or endangered national security, the State Department said.
Most of these visas were revoked following a law enforcement encounter of some kind, such as DUIs, theft, and drug crimes. The department also said that a “significant share” of these visas was revoked for sexual assault, child abuse, and other serious crimes.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the State Department will continue to identify, investigate, and revoke the visas of foreign nationals who threaten the safety of the American people,” the department said in a press release.
It continued, “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right. The Department remains committed to using every tool available to protect our communities from those who abuse it.”
Monday’s announcement comes as the president’s second term has not yet even reached two years.
The State Department also highlighted the abuses of “birth tourism,” noting that it had revoked more than 100 visas for “birth tourist” parents who came to the U.S. to give birth to children simply so those kids could obtain automatic U.S. citizenship.
Just last week, President Trump signed two critical executive orders aimed at stopping the practice of birth tourism – a direct response to a contentious ruling at the U.S. Supreme Court that upheld the practice of birthright citizenship.
“What’s happening now, are people are building businesses around it – wealthy people are building businesses around birthright citizenship,” the president said. “That’s not the way we’re supposed to work. It’s a disgrace. They’re buying their way in, and we’re not going to let it happen.”
