Trump weighs response as Israel-Iran conflict escalates
By Easton Martin
The Israel-Iran conflict has escalated sharply in recent days, with both nations exchanging heavy airstrikes. Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, initiated on June 13, has targeted Iranian nuclear and military sites, including deep underground facilities, prompting Iran to retaliate with hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones against Israeli territory. Civilian casualties are rising on both sides.
The United States has not yet entered the conflict directly, but President Donald Trump has ordered a significant military buildup in the region. U.S. assets now include multiple carrier strike groups, F-35 squadrons, and long-range bombers positioned for rapid deployment. The Pentagon describes the move as precautionary, aimed at protecting American personnel and deterring further escalation.
President Trump has publicly demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and warned of devastating consequences if American lives are endangered. He confirmed U.S. intelligence knows the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on a post on Truth Social.

The administration has not confirmed any plans to strike directly as of yet.
In a high-level Situation Room meeting on Tuesday, Trump and his national security team reviewed options ranging from tactical strikes on nuclear facilities like Fordow, to leveraging military pressure in pursuit of a diplomatic breakthrough.
Iran, meanwhile, has issued strong warnings that any direct U.S. intervention would trigger “all-out war.”
Trump’s next move appears to balance between overwhelming military response and strategic coercion to force Iran back into negotiations. With tensions at a breaking point, the coming days may determine whether the U.S. escalates or restrains.
