What the media isn’t telling you about the Austin ICE shooting
By Easton Martin
Media coverage surrounding Sunday’s federal law enforcement shooting in North Austin has omitted critical context regarding federal deportation mandates and the inherent dangers of resisting arrest.
Federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement tracked Wilber Rafael Garces Perez during an active enforcement operation on Sunday afternoon. Law enforcement sources confirmed Garces Perez had an outstanding final deportation order on his record. Mainstream reporting centered entirely on his gig work for DoorDash to soften the reality of his unlawful presence.
The encounter quickly escalated when Garces Perez fled from federal officers. Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed ICE called state troopers for urgent pursuit assistance around 12:50 p.m.. The suspect led federal agents on both vehicular and foot chases through North Austin streets before the confrontation turned physical.
An ICE officer discharged his weapon during the foot struggle and wounded Garces Perez in the torso. Law enforcement officers face immense danger whenever suspects evade instead of compliance. Legacy networks deliberately ignored the threat posed by fleeing suspects on public roadways.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and District Attorney José Garza immediately redirected public attention to attack federal authority. Local progressive officials demanded outside probes instead of backing necessary border security operations. Left-wing demonstrators then descended on the scene to throw rocks and bottles at uniformed officers.
The media consistently conceals the inevitable fallout of open-border policies and municipal non-cooperation. When local politicians routinely undermine immigration authorities like this, dangerous street enforcement actions become unfortunately unavoidable. Federal agents bear the duty to locate and apprehend deportable foreign nationals regardless of municipal interference.
