After YouTuber exposes alleged Minnesota daycare fraud, FBI responds
In a now-viral video, YouTuber Nick Shirley exposed an alarming pattern of alleged fraud in the state of Minnesota, shedding light on what seems to be unfettered corruption in Democrat Gov. Tim Walz’s state

Amid a glaring exposure by YouTuber Nick Shirley, it appears that a string of child daycare centers in Minnesota have allegedly received millions in state funding, despite being alarmingly decrepit or, perhaps, even abandoned.
One location, the “Quality Learing Center,” was glaringly misspelled and allegedly took $1.9 million from Minnesota just this year, per Shirley’s reporting. During a mid-weekday, the center was closed and locked – and the appearance of the building was less than appealing, with a blacked-out glass door:
“No one’s working midday, children should be in here, and this place is licensed for 99 children, and this is the outside – there’s no windows, NOTHING!” Shirley remarked in the video.
He alleged that this center was “just one of hundreds” of daycare centers being run by Somali immigrants in the state – a population group recently spotlighted by the Trump administration that has been linked to rampant fraud and corruption.
The story on these possible daycare shells has been alarming. The story has gone viral on social media and has prompted questions from Americans wondering why a YouTuber – not federal law enforcement – was the one to publicly expose these alleged instances of potential abuse in the system.
On Sunday, FBI Director Kash Patel issued a statement in response to the rising speculation and intense scrutiny of the situation in Minnesota.
“The FBI is aware of recent social media reports in Minnesota,” he said.
Patel continued, “However, even before the public conversation escalated online, the FBI had surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs. Fraud that steals from taxpayers and robs vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in Minnesota and nationwide.”
Patel highlighted work the FBI had done previously to dismantle a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme tied to the Feeding Our Future network, resulting in 78 indictments. As for future action on the allegations of daycare-linked fraud in Minnesota, he did not provide further details.
Vice President J.D. Vance, however, has been more outspoken on the matter of widespread alleged fraud in Minnesota, ranging from reports of possible voter fraud to Medicaid fraud, too.
“What’s happening in Minnesota is a microcosm of the immigration fraud in our system,” the vice president remarked on X. “Politicians like it because they get power. Welfare cheats like it because they get rich. But it’s a zero sum game, and they’re stealing both money and political power from Minnesotans.”
