
Air India Boeing 787 fatal crash

An Air India Boeing 787 taking off from Ahmedabad India on its way to London Gatwick has crashed. The plane of 242 passengers took off around 1:38pm local time, crashing in Meghani Nagar less than a minute after taking off.
Police commissioner G.S. Malik stated that there appear to be no survivors of the 242 on board, though an active search is still underway. Reportedly, an additional 75 bodies on the ground have also been recovered from the residential crash site.

According to The New Indian Express, “Out of the 242 people onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 are Portuguese nationals.”
According to both local authorities and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the pilots issued a “Mayday” distress call, the last communication before the plane crashed.
The Air India Boeing 787, tail number VT-ANB, was first delivered to the airline on January 31 of 2014.
The FAA has stated its willingness to provide technical support if needed.
