Details on the foiled Mall of America attack
By Easton Martin
Federal law enforcement agents arrested a suspect after uncovering an operational plot targeting the Mall of America. Investigators moved in before the individual could carry out the planned assault on the Bloomington, Minnesota shopping complex.
According to court filings unsealed this morning, federal agents monitored the suspect for several weeks following digital tips and intelligence reports. The individual gathered tactical gear, surveyed foot traffic at multiple entrances, and researched security patrol schedules across the four-level retail facility.
Local police collaborated directly with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to execute the arrest without incident outside a nearby residence. Officers seized weapons, ammunition, and detailed floor plans marked with primary access points.
Bloomington police officials confirmed that the perimeter around the mall remains secure. Normal business operations continue as federal prosecutors prepare formal charges, including attempted acts of terrorism and weapons offenses.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office scheduled a formal press briefing for Thursday afternoon to outline the complete indictment and present evidence gathered during the multi-agency operation.
