Evangelical preacher, author, and Founders Ministry leader Voddie Baucham Jr., passed away on Thursday at the age of 56.
“We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living,” the Founders Ministries said in a statement.
It continued, “Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.”
Baucham was a respected faith leader in America and across the world. He was well known for his convicting messages, as well as his books, like Fault Lines: The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe, and Family Driven Faith: Doing What It Takes to Raise Sons and Daughters Who Walk with God.
Baucham was considered by many to be a master apologist. His book, Expository Apologetics: Answering Objections with the Power of the Word, was an excellent example of that.
His passing comes in the wake of a heavy year of losses for Christians in America, after the deaths of faith leaders like Pastor John MacArthur, James Dobson, and Charlie Kirk.
“I really can’t believe the news about Voddie is real,” said Megan Basham, a bestselling journalist and author of Shepherds for Sale.
She continued, “Oh Lord give us a thousand men like him. Give us men influenced by his legacy of speaking unpopular truth and discerning unbiblical trends.”
Ginna Cross, the co-executive director of Alliance Family Services – a Christian network of pro-life healthcare clinics – stated on X, “John MacArthur, James Dobson, Charlie Kirk, and now Voddie Baucham. Such formidable fighters have all gone to glory in such a short time. Who will come after them?”
Podcast host and apologist Alisa Childers pointed out on Thursday that the older generation of theologians who are passing on, while they leave a void, is an opportunity for the truth to rise:
“I remember how confident some of my progressive friends were that once the older generation of conservative theologians died, it would be their moment to rise. They failed to realize that every generation has buried its truth-tellers. But no one has ever buried the Truth. ‘The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.’ 1 Pet. 1:24-25″
