Former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton’s home was raided early Friday morning by the FBI as part of an investigation allegedly dealing with classified records, months after the White House yanked Bolton’s security clearance.
According to CNBC, this raid is the continuation of an investigation that began during the Biden administration but was left unfinished.
“NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission[,]” wrote FBI Director Kash Patel early Friday morning on X.
Per CNBC’s report, Bolton’s wife appeared to be home at the time of the raid, although this is not confirmed. Interestingly, the report also said Bolton published a statement on X roughly one hour after the raid began about the Russia-Ukraine situation, where he accused Trump of pursuing peace simply to win “a Nobel Peace Prize.”
Bolton has been a consistent critic of President Trump and even cheered on the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago in 2022. “No one is above the law,” he said during an interview with MSNBC at that time.
Mr. Patel has since confirmed that there was “no predicate to go and invade Donald Trump’s home,” and the federal criminal charges against the president were dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon in 2024.
Upon taking office in January, President Trump revoked Bolton’s security clearance within hours of returning to the Oval Office, along with many others, like the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
On Friday morning, Trump spoke to reporters about the FBI’s raid on Bolton’s home, stating that he “didn’t know about it,” but scorched him as a “sort of lowlife.”
Trump noted that Bolton’s foreign policy approach was overly aggressive. “He was one of the people that forced Bush to do the ridiculous bombings in the Middle East…he wants to always kill people,” he said. “And he’s very bad at what he does.”
