Are gas prices actually getting better?

According to a new White House report, U.S. gas prices have dropped to their lowest level in nearly five years, reflected by recent national data.
The nationwide average price for regular gasoline has fallen below three dollars per gallon in 37 states. In 22 states, prices are reportedly under two dollars and seventy five cents per gallon. In a handful of locations, drivers have even found gas priced below two dollars and fifty cents, with isolated reports of prices near one dollar and seventy cents.
The administration attributes these declines to its energy policy approach, which emphasizes increased domestic energy production and reduced regulatory pressure.
The White House also connects lower gas prices to broader signs of economic improvement. These include declining median rent, lower weekly jobless claims, easing mortgage rates, and improving consumer confidence.
