IDF punishes soldiers who desecrated statue of Christ

The Israel Defense Forces has disciplined soldiers and replaced a religious statue in southern Lebanon following a military inquiry. The investigation focused on an incident in the village of Debel where a Christian symbol was damaged.
The inquiry found that one soldier damaged the symbol while a second soldier filmed the act. Six other soldiers were present at the scene but did not report the incident. The IDF removed the primary soldier and the photographer from combat duty. Both individuals were sentenced to 30 days in military detention.The remaining soldiers have been summoned for command-level discussions to determine further measures.
The Chief of the General Staff condemned the incident as a moral failure, and has stated that the conduct contradicted the values and expected behavior of the military. The IDF expressed deep regret for the incident and reiterated that its operations target Hezbollah rather than Lebanese civilians.
Troops replaced the damaged statue in coordination with the local community of Debel. The Northern Command managed the replacement process immediately after receiving reports of the damage. The military has also reinforced guidelines regarding the treatment of religious institutions and symbols for all troops operating in the area.
