JD Vance’s Israel comments on Joe Rogan are upsetting people

During an appearance on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Vice President JD Vance stated that some people within the Israeli government want an indefinite war.
”I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there have been people within the Israeli government who are trying to, like, actually shift us away from [negotiations] because they want to continue the military campaign,” said Vance. He added that these individuals are “manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely” rather than working toward a specific objective.
The remarks prompted a rather strong reaction on social media, with many users expressing anger over the comment.
However, Vance is not taking an unhinged position on Israel like the extremes on both sides of the issue. If his statement is the truth, he should be commended for saying it, and there is no reason people should be afraid to speak such truth.
To be clear, Vance did not state that Israel as a whole wants this outcome. He specifically pointed to certain individuals within their government system. This distinction mirrors the situation in the United States, where there are undoubtedly individuals within the American government who also favor indefinite war.
During the interview, Vance described his broader perspective as that of a “reasonable moderate” in the current domestic debate over Israel. He also emphasized that the Trump administration acted entirely separate from any Israeli influence regarding its decisions on Iran, while reiterating his agreement with the administration’s position that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
