Federal law enforcement agencies conducted a large-scale operation across the Twin Cities on Tuesday. Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security executed 22 search warrants at various businesses and residences. The coordinated raids are part of an ongoing criminal investigation into the systemic misuse of federal funds intended for social welfare programs.
The operation primarily targeted facilities receiving Medicaid and other government subsidies, including several daycare and senior care centers. Federal investigators were seen removing boxes of documents and computer equipment from multiple sites. Among the locations involved was the infamous “Quality Learing Center” in Minneapolis, a facility that gained notoriety for a prominent misspelling on its exterior signage. Other sites included the Somali Senior Center and Adult Day Services as well as the Baby Halamo Childcare center.
Federal prosecutors have previously indicated that fraud within Minnesota social programs could reach as high as $9 billion. This latest action follows the “Feeding Our Future” scandal, which resulted in over 60 convictions related to the theft of funds meant to feed children. Authorities stated that Tuesday’s activity was focused strictly on financial crimes and was not related to immigration enforcement.
Vice President JD Vance, who leads a White House task force on fraud, commented on the enforcement actions. He stated that the administration remains committed to exposing those who exploit taxpayer funded systems. FBI Director Kash Patel also addressed the raids, noting the extensive work of federal and state partners in executing the warrants.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz claimed that state agencies had identified and reported the irregular behavior that led to the investigation. However, federal officials clarified that the Department of Justice and the FBI led the drafting and execution of the warrants.
