President Donald Trump said on Friday that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, one of the most well-known members of the president’s Cabinet, will remain in his role despite rumors.
“Scott Bessent will not be going to be Super Intelligence (SI) Czar,” the president wrote in a statement.
He added, “Number One, he doesn’t want to. Number Two, he’s doing such a great job at Treasury, and that’s where I want to keep him! Why would I ever make such a change? Just more Fake News!”
“Super Intelligence” is the president’s new name for artificial intelligence, or AI.
President Trump’s comment follows an announcement he made last week, in which he called for the appointment of a so-called “AI Czar.”
He explained:
We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System. For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term. To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI “Czar” — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!
The president has described the AI revolution as the next “Industrial Revolution” and likened it to the introduction of the internet, but has argued that it will be “even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP.”
President Trump’s statement about Bessent’s position amid the hunt for an AI Czar also comes on the heels of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent three-day visit to the U.S. Both world leaders discussed the expansion of AI technology.
“Very productive meeting with President Xi for both the U.S.A. and China,” President Trump said upon the Chinese leader’s departure. “Tremendous things will be happening. Like almost everyone else, he seemed to like calling the poorly and inaccurately named Artificial Intelligence to a far more accurate and important name, SUPER INTELLIGENCE. That would be ‘SUPER!’ Everyone last night agreed, also.”
