Republican congresswoman proposes an END to H-1B visas
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has proposed an aggressive phase-out of the H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. employers to temporarily hire foreign workers for specialized jobs

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) announced this week that she plans to introduce a bill that will “aggressively” phase out the controversial H-1B visa program, which has brought hundreds of thousands of foreign workers to the U.S.
“My bill ELIMINATES the corrupt H-1B program and puts AMERICANS FIRST again in tech, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, and every industry that keeps this country running!!” Rep. Greene wrote in a statement posted to social media.
She continued, “If we want the next generation to have the American Dream, we must stop replacing them and start investing in them.”
Her latest announcement comes on the heels of President Trump’s support for the H-1B program as a vehicle to use foreign workers to train the American workforce in specialized areas.
Currently, there are about 730,000 H-1B holders in the U.S., with roughly 550,000 dependents, according to the most recent data.
Some conservatives disagree with the concept of allowing foreign workers to train Americans in specialized areas, like shipbuilding, for example – an industry that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently pointed out needs professional cultivation, as the U.S. hasn’t dominated the shipbuilding industry in years.
The problem, of course, is how to procure such specific training for American workers who must adapt to a rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape, without threatening their long-term jobs.
Republicans like Rep. Greene would like to see the visa program eliminated altogether, citing alleged abuse in the system.
“Big Tech, AI giants, hospitals, and industries across the board have abused the H-1B system to cut out our own people,” the congresswoman said in her statement. “Americans are the most talented people in the world, and I have full faith in the American people. I serve Americans only, and I will ALWAYS put Americans first.”
